We recently had an addition constructed with a hallway cut into the existing wall joining the addition with the existing home. When you are dealing with uneven floors one option that you have is to use self leveling compound. We d like to use laminate flooring connecting the two rooms but the problem is the concrete slab on the existing side of the house is 1 2 inch higher than the concrete sla. This compound can potentially be utilized on a concrete slab or a wood subfloor and it works well when you are dealing with dips in the floor.

If the floor is uneven you need to address a few things to create a flat floor for the laminate flooring. Therefore use a large spirit level to see if there are irregularities on the subfloor and pour a thin layer of auto leveling screed if necessary. Check for cracks and crumbling. In addition use a large scraper to remove the bumps and other residues which can create gaps in the laminate flooring over time.
